Three of Swords
"Three swords pierce a heart under the rain: the clean, undisguised pain of a wound."
Upright meaning
The Three of Swords is the wound that cannot be denied: a breakup, a betrayal, a truth that hurts right at the center. It does not dress up the blow: it names it. But the falling rain also washes, and pain acknowledged is the first step toward beginning to close.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the wound starts to heal. Resentment and grief loosen, forgiveness comes — to the other or to oneself — and the sword leaves the heart. It still hurts, but it no longer pierces.
In love
A disappointment, a separation, or a bitter truth in the bond. Mourning it is part of healing it.
In work and money
Harsh criticism, a rejection, or a professional letdown. Learn from the blow without moving into it.
The card's advice
Do not cover the wound to avoid seeing it: what is named hurts, but what is denied festers.
