Five of Cups
"Three cups spilled, two still standing: the grief that watches what is lost and forgets what remains."
Upright meaning
The Five of Cups is the ache of what was spilled. A cloaked figure mourns three fallen cups and does not turn to see the two still full, nor the bridge leading home. It is the legitimate sorrow of a loss, but also the trap of staring only at the emptiness.
Reversed meaning
Reversed, the figure finally turns around. Forgiveness begins — of the other or of oneself — regret and guilt loosen their grip, and you recognize that not all was lost. The bridge is still there.
In love
A disappointment, a grief in love, or the weight of a "what might have been." Healing starts the day you look at what you still have.
In work and money
A setback, a project that failed, or a missed chance. Learn the lesson without moving in to live in it.
The card's advice
Mourn what was spilled, but turn around: two cups are still full and the road home is open.
